The Great 40k Fall Challenge

Recommended Posts

What we have here is an epic challenge of the ages.

Taylor vs. OJ.

Warhammer 40k.

In preparation for the BPO, OJ and I are going to engage in an exhausting challenge - to paint and base everything we need to play in that tournament. Why should you care? Because it wouldn't be a challenge if there weren't stakes involved, and a chance to profit from our inherent laziness.

If OJ does not complete his challenge, we will raffle off a NoS Sylvaneth Treeman Lord.

If I don't complete my challenge, I will raffle off a NoS Imperial Knight.

We have until November 17th at midnight to post our pictures. We Will, of course, keep everyone updated on our progress. OJ even promised to post Work in Progress pictures regularly (he actually didn't, but fuck that - he will).

So, with that being said, this is how we are doing the raffle. If you post constructively in this thread, you get one entry. If you post a picture of what you're working on along side us, you will get TWO entries. If you post pictures with a bit about how you achieved your desired effect, you will get THREE entries.

So, what are we painting? Here is the lists.

OJ

Completed to date

10 - Rubric Marines
10 - Tzangors

5 - Occult Terminators -
3 - Exalted Sorcerers -

1 - 1K sons Demon Prince -
1 - Ahriman -
1 - Eversor Assassin -
1 - Wraith Knights
2 - Wraith Lords
2 - Eldar Flyer - Complete

Taylor

2x Daemon Princes

2x Hugely Converted Rhinos

2x Almost Scratch Built Helbrutes

A good question was raised.  Where does all the entries go if we both complete our challenge?

Well, Let's make this a little more interesting.

If both of us complete's the challenges, I will raffle off the NoS Sylvaneth Treelord regardless.

If I do not complete the challenge. I will raffle off my entire Sylvaneth Army.

This should be some fuel to get my ass in gear to paint.

Right on. Good initiative OJ. I'm going to keep my pledge the same. If I fail, I'll raffle off the imperial knight. I'll keep it if I succeed.

Very cool initiative guys. I'll try to keep up with something 40k related (deathguard/nurgle or a mixed bag of nuts deamon army)

looking forward to it

Good luck to you both!  If we already have a project we're working on for the other painting challenge, can we post pictures from that in here?  Or does it have to be something different?

Thanks all!

@Justicebeaver Yeah,  it makes for less brushstrokes.

@Deademperor You mean Orange and Grey? LOL. Not much further my client wants a clean scheme on his eldar without a lot of washed.

Lol, nope, I meant blue lol

it comes across both my regular viewing devices as a grey with a heavy blue tint.

Well, still looking forward seeing it complete lol

Great work @Taylor. That's some rad rhino conversion

Okay, so here is my keeper of secrets. As it stands I'm not using the epic über sized greater deamons

Made from:

•the torso, arms and head of a deamon prince.

• imposed over the deamon Prince head is a seeker of slaanesh steed, with epoxy  built up

• extra horns from a cryx slayer warjack head

• extra arms crushing claws from a tyrinid Kit. Legs from another kit

• tail from a manticore

• shoulder horn from an ogre cannon kit

• loin cloth is a banner from a hell strider kit

• torso extended with epoxy

really looking forward to painting it but the back needs some work

Thanks Taylor :)

i think the paint job will make it come together even better :)

i tried sculpting it with feminine qualities when it had the two sword arms... But it really didn't execute very well. The.  Found the crushing claws which really made it feel like a KoS.

And because I follow a "want not waste not" philosophy

i made a chaos spawn of slaanesh from the left over steed.

• I cut and repositioned the neck upright and rebuilt a portion following the single breast easthetic

• used a dwarf standard for the head. I chose this because it almost reminded me of a Roman-era sex mask (from what Spartacus shown me to be true lol)
