Interrogator_Chaplain's Finish Dark Angels, Mechanicum & Others

Recommended Posts

Something that'll fall under the "Other" category tonight, as 8th looms, the locals are banding together to get the models from the Dark Imperium starter set ready for demo day. I got my hands on a couple models for the cause and I took home the Primaris Lieutenants and the Nurgle Lord of Contagion. I started with the Primaris Lieutenants because I knew I'd be able to finish them reasonably quickly, and here we are.

A pair of Primaris Lieutenants done up in Ultramarines colours. (Also got my first two games of 8th in today, 1000 points of Deathwing vs. Ynnari then Emperor's Children. I tabled the Ynnari player and narrowly lost to the Emperor's Children. This edition gives me hope!)

Do you think you can put one beside a normal space marine so i can see the size difference? I'm genuinely interested to see how big the primaris marines are in comparison to the standard tactical marine.

OH - right on. That's what I was hoping to see. So the Primaris are on 40mm and the guy in gravis armour is on a 50mm?

I think that space marine is on a 32mm - the primaris one looks slightly bigger.

Thanks Ian - yeah - that's definitely a 40mm base. I thought they were on 32mm bases, which led me to believe they weren't that bigger than normal space marines. That would make the dude in gravis armour on a 50mm base - which is pretty big - considering a dreadnought is on a 60mm base.

That's also amazing progression, eh? It's crazy how fast you can get better at painting by simply learning a new technique.

Things are starting to get a little heretical here.

I finished the Lord of Contagion today, like the Primaris Lieutenants, for the Games and Hobbies store copy of Dark Imperium. As my style of painting is very clean, this was a fun departure to tackle. It's still cleaner than most Nurgle models, because hey, when you've got a style that works for you... But it was definitely liberating to not have to worry about every little errant wash brushstroke or that the consistency of one area is a little off. Part of me is a little sad with how I covered up the rust on the axe with so much gore as it did look pretty good, but if you're gonna do gore on a weapon like that, you gotta go all in, because that's not a weapon that lends itself to clean kills.

I'll be helping the others who're doing the box by picking up 5 Poxwalkers and seeing if I can get those done by Saturday as well.

That looks really good man. If you need a gore/gross tutorial, I'd be happy to help you out.

Looking good. Crisp, clean and neat Nurgle.... is it possible to have a double dose of heresy haha. I'm really looking forward to seeing how those poxwalkers come out as well. Keep up the good work and you might have to start doing a chaos army.

@Taylor@Justicebeaver Thanks, and no, that's more than enough Chaos for me for some time.

And that's the Poxwalkers done and my contribution to the demo copy of Dark Imperium. This has been a fun, quick and worthwhile endeavour, got to try a lot of techniques that I don't usually get to try and that's always helpful to have in ones tool chest. I'm gonna get back to my Custodes Contemptor, but I think that's going to happen after I do up my Deathwing Champion, since they're individual models now unrestricted by the Deathwing Command Squad.  Mostly now, I just want to get in some games of 8th.

Well that was fun! Started the Deathwing Champion after demo day at Games and Hobbies yesterday, and I finished it this evening! I decided to get it done because it's gonna take a bit longer to get the Custodes Contemptor done, and I know games are gonna be coming sooner than that being finished. So because the Deathwing Champion is unburdened from the Deathwing Command Squad, I had to get it done.

Now, to start slathering stuff in gold.

@Taylor, thanks as always! :)

Oh hey, long time no see. (Speaking relatively of course.)

So basically in the time since the last post, I played my first game, then played a shit-ton of Mass Effect: Andromeda (Seriously good, couldn't put it down for a week!) and realized that right now, I am not digging Horus Heresy as much as I am 8th. As such, I've done something I rarely do and put a project aside for a while, that project being my Custodes-Contemptor. 8th is just so much damn fun, that I can't have anything else distracting me from my Angels.

And even I myself have gotten bitten by the Primaris bug. I am a fairly narrative player and the dynamic between the Dark Angels and Primaris Marines is a fascinating question to explore, but I feel that I can't add any Primaris Marine command units until I see some official narrative seeing how they've integrated with the Dark Angels famously secretive command structure. Can you truly trust these fresh-faced outsiders with the burdensome secrets of the Fallen? I don't know, but I'm excited to learn more.

That being said, line troops don't know jack about the Fallen, so I feel it was just fine to incorporate these fellas into my army. 3 fresh Inceptors ready to drop in and blow heads off. These were done kind of assembly line style so I didn't do a whole lot of individualizing, but still content on the whole with them, even though the process was a little monotonous at times.

Plan now is to start working on Deathwing Wave 2 and incorporate some more Terminators into the army. With plans for at least 10 more Terminators and 5 more Deathwing Knights, we'll see how far it'll go before bone starts to bore me!

As always, looking great. Have you looked into weathering your models at all? I recently started using weathering powders and I'm hooked.

@Taylor Well, I tried my hand at weathering with the Lord of Contagion, and I did like it. But seeing as the style of my army is consistently clean, switching it up now would look weird.

So this week, I got started on the Deathwing with some standard Terminators and went with a couple Tartaros Pattern and a Cataphractii, as I like to imagine that the Dark Angels, with their heritage of Terminators over 10 millennia will have accumulated more of the esoteric patterns of Terminator armour. From here on out, I'm going to endeavour to put on the decals before calling models done.

So next up will be another pair of Terminators, gonna be doing the standard pattern for these next two. Then, after those, Deathwing Knights to bring me up to 10!

Pair 'o Terminators done!

These guys bring me up to 20 standard Terminators, which I'm probably going to beef up to 30 before I switch focus from Deathwing, really need a couple Cyclone Missile Launchers, so that's on the to-do.

But the next project is another 5 Deathwing Knights so I can run them in a big squad of 10 to really put the fear in my enemies. (Or two 5 man squads like a rational person.)

Looks great as per usual.  Do you have a display case where you keep all these models?
