Kevin's Showcase and Painting Thread - Updated Irvin's Daemon Army.

Recommended Posts

So I was checking out the old forum and my WIPs from there. I thought I would compare one of my first models painted, vs my most recent model paints. This is 2.5 years of difference.

2015:

2017:

As a bonus this was the first ever marine I full painted, I had tried on one other previously but never finished it.

Fantastic work, Kevin. That's an awesome improvement you've had - I wish I had improved like that with 3 years of painting models.

Hey guys here is a new update of some hobby work. The following models were painted by @kyriosepoch and based by myself. They are for a game called Freeblades which is a skirmish RPG style miniature game which @Irvin, Paul and I are planning on starting soon. We have had the models since Adepticon last year. The models below are from the faction Traazor, they are basically Romans riding dinosaurs.

So someone on DakkaDakka is making us a full table of terrain, here is where it is at right now. That ruined chuch is in 4 big pieces. It looks so good right now. Can't wait for it to be finished. Also the windmill does indeed turn with a little motor. It will be used mostly for AoS.

Hey guys I was commissioned to build and magnetize a Space Wolf army. This took me 18 hours total, and cost the person who commissioned me $200. See a list of models below but there was over 200 magnets used in the project. There is over 100 magnetized bits. I would be happy to do it again if you have an army you want done, I would accept either cash or painting as payment for this service.

List of models:

5x Fenrisian Wolves

5x Termintors (all arms magnetized)

3x Thunderwolf Calvary (all arms magnetized)

1x Dreadnought (all option for the venerable and Bjorn magnetized, magnetized at waist)

2x Drop Pods

1x Storm Wolf (all sponson option magnetized)

1x Iron Priest

35x Marines:

- 7 Special Weapons (melta, flamer, bolter and plasma magnetized for each guy)

- 4x Champions (all options magnetized for each guy)

- 24x Normal Marines (mix of bolter/chain sword)

Hey guys I was commissioned to base up this winter themed sylvaneth army. Let me know what you think, all that is left to to is paint the rim of the bases black.

Looks good,  but I'd put more gloss on the snow and ground around it  to make it look like it's melting.

While that is a decent idea I have used up the allotted time for the project. They look decent though and match the army well

Another update, built the wooden base of the board. Irvin's army was based using Astrogranite and Astrogranite Debris technical basing basing painted from GW. It would have cost far too much to buy enough to covered a whole display board. So this was my fix, Fine Pumice Gel, mixed with 3 different sizes of sand, only a bit of each sand is needed. This was then applied in a very uneven pattern to match Irvin's bases.

Update! Blooooooddd! And dry brushing haha. The blood was a envirotex 2 part resin mixed with miniataire blood effect paint, and applied using a syringe. I think it looks really good. The resin will need to try all day and over night, after that I have to apply some tufts, and paint the edge of the board and it will be finished. Final update tomorrow.

Looks good. How do you find the miniatare line?

I like it, I mean we got the whole line (85 paints) at a garage sale at a tourney we went to for $45. SO can't complain too much.

Update! The board is finished! The flowers were not my idea, so don't blame me haha, I just do what I am paid to do.

Hey guys I built a FW Custodes Contemptor that @marcuss will be painting sometime in the future. I tried to give him a really cool pose, like he is jumping in the air and gonna come down hard on a homie. Let me know what you think.

There is an easy way to do that. You get a metallic pastel pencil crayon and run it along the edge.

I think I might have had a stroke. 😨 I could have sworn there was a vehicle with chipped paint on the edges, and @MisterAG said something how he liked the paint chipping effect but it was a shame they didn't continue the effect on the tracks... Lol. I have no idea... But paint chipping IS a pretty easy effect with a metallic pastel pencil... that much is true.
