I emailed Eric and informed him of our site. He and I used to play warhammer fantasy back at AnG before he moved away.

nice to see the interest is here for this. I'm hoping that Sudbury will have a large presence at this event. That way, North Bay would make the trip out to the B&P Open.

Just to pump this event up a bit more, guys, Eric is hoping for 40-50 players. There will definitely be players of every play style there.

From the email thread:

Of note is the table size and the change to the cover rules.

Charity tournament Preparation Package

In this package you will find a list and description of possible missions, deployment types, point scoring system, and changes to the terrain rules so that they are easier to use and more sensible.

Scoring system
Major victory = 4+ victory points in your favor
Minor victory = 1 to 3 victory points in your favor
Draw = no difference in victory points
Minor loss = 1 to 3 victory points in your opponents favor
Major loss = 4+ victory points in your opponents favor

Secondary missions
In every mission the following objectives will be worth 1 VP each
First Strike = Destroy one or more units of your opponents in the first round of play
Slay the Warlord = same as main BRB
Line Breaker = same as main BRB

Mission Types
Please note that in any mission that has random game length you can only go to turn 6. This is due to time constraints for the tournament

Retrieval = Same as BRB

No Mercy = Same as BRB

Secure and Control = Same as BRB except add one additional Objective directly in the center of the table making a total of 3 objectives

Occupy = For those of you who have played Kings of War, this mission is the same. In this mission 5 objective markers are set up. 1 is placed in the center of the table. the next 2, to be placed in alternating order by each player, are placed more than 12 inches from the first objective but no more than 6 inches from the center line of the table. once these objectives are placed players roll to see who picks deployment zones (highest roll wins). After deployment zones are determined, each player then places a final objective marker in their own deployment zone more than 6 inches from a table edge and 12 inches from any other objective
marker. objectives are worth the following victory points:
- objective in your deployment zone = 0 VP for you
- objectives in the center line area of the table = 3 VP each
- objective in your opponent's deployment zone = 6 VP
game play proceeds as normal from this point on with random game length being in effect.

Control = in this mission place a marker in the middle of the table (this is simply to denote where the center is). at the end of the game, you gain 3 VP for each table quarter you control. you are considered to control a table quarter if you have more models in that quarter than your opponent.
deployment and game play proceed as normal for this mission with there being no random game length for this mission

Take and hold = this mission is like the retrieval mission except that there are 5 objectives on the table in the following set up:
-1 objective placed directly in the center of the table
- 4 objectives are placed around the center objective so that there is 1 objective in each table quarter found 12 inches from each of that quarters table edges.
this set up should create a square of objectives equal distance from each other (24 inches apart) with one objective in the middle at roughly 17 inches from all other objectives.
Game play proceeds as with the retrieval mission found in the BRB
note: unless otherwise stated, objectives are worth 3 VP at the end of the game to who ever controls them.

Table set up
- All games will be played on 4x4 tables as per recommendations from both the BRB and in the interest of time restrictions for this tournament
- Assume that all tables will have min 25% terrain and at least 3 pieces of LoS blocking features

Deployment Types
The following will be the types of deployment to expect at this tournament:
1. Dawn of War
2. Search and Destroy
3. Vanguard Strike

Terrain Changes
Unfortunately even with the FAQ the rules for terrain are poor at best with regards to how cover is provided and and how it works. Because of this, there will be a few changes in the hopes to provide a more sensible set of rules for how terrain interacts with models and a generally better experience for players.
Receiving the benefits of cover:
- Models receive the benefit of cover if their unit is more than 50% within the piece of terrain.
- Models that are obscured by more than 50% from the point of view of the shooting model will gain the benefit of cover even if they are not in a piece of terrain. Please note that weapons that do not need line of site to shoot at a target will ignore this benefit if the targeted unit is not in a piece of terrain since it will be considered that the shot is coming from above or another direction other than in a straight line that could bypass intervening obstructions.

I'm going to go ahead and put some formatting in here...

Personally I prefer a 4x4 table. There isn't enough room to just constantly kite, and it forces action.

To get real interesting, I'd suggest 50% terrain with buildings and theme it like a city fight.

4x4 is definitely a different dynamic. There is going to be absolutely no room to maneuver except for directly forward. Deep Strike will likely play less of a role than units that are innately fast to cover the midfield.

Man oh man, I wanted to be there! The prospect of a 'local' big event was tantalizing, to say the least!

Unfortunately, the house rules turned me off and the 4x4 tables were the deal breaker.
