  2. Competitive 40k Bracket

Hey guys, The next season of ITC tournaments is upon us. Usually I play 40k to toss some dice and have some giggles, but last year's experience at the Barrie Bash was a real eye opener to me. I went 1-4 and got trounced game after game. I'd like to improve my game and am looking for some help. Through January and February I'd like to run a round robin tournament against other competitive players to get some reps in. Are you interested? ------ The Plan I would like to run a round robin pool of 4 players playing 3 games in 6 weeks. If we can get a second pool of 4 players then we can do another round after the Barrie Bash with the top 4 players in a pool and the bottom 4 players in the second pool. The end result would hopefully be a relegation ladder system where players move up and down between pools every 6 weeks or so. I imagine that we could get 3-5 of these pools cobbled together and it would be neat to track progress through the ranks over the winter and spring seasons. While this is initially billed as a competitive organization, with more players comes more variety. In the end there would definitely be casual pools or re-assignment as needed if a player wants to level up or down for a month. The Schedule I'd like to have the first round robin heats done before February 18. A 4-person heat would start in early January. I would like to simply publish the required matches for the heat and leave it to the players to schedule their games over the month. There are no week to week matchups, only games that you are obligated to play in a pretty lazy time frame. The Format 2000 points / ITC Missions will be used for the first heat. Missions for future heats will be decided by upcoming events. Standings at the end of the heat will be Win/Loss/Draw. First tie breaker will be head-to-head result among the tied parties. Second tie breaker will be total mission points among the tied parties. Standings really only matter if we do a second heat in March. The March heat would see the top two from each bracket match up while the bottom two from each form the other bracket. Additional brackets would result in a more complicated re-distribution of players, but that is a problem for the future. The Fees This will initially be a free to play offering. If we can crack eight players I might charge a $10 initiation fee and $5 renewal fee every heat to keep people interested. Collected monies can be spent on prize support for locally hosted tournaments or can be used to buy a player's entry to a local tournament. This is not a money making exercise for me - I just find that people play their matches when they have skin in the game. ------ Congratulations! You made it through to the end of the post! Please voice your interest or add any relevant comments below.
  3. Competitive 40k Bracket

I'm rubbish too, which is the point! I'll keep collecting names for a couple of weeks and then will put something together. Thanks for the help, guys.
  4. Escalation League Fall 2017 Wrap-Up

Thanks for running these escalation leagues Kevin. Tracking pairings and performance week over week is a little slice of Excel hell that I'm glad you took on. That store was packed all Fall and this league was a big reason for that. Kudos! Congratulations to the winners and all the participants as well. 40k is surely alive and well in these parts!

  6. BPO Feedback Thread

Hey Guys, I'd like to get some feedback - both positive and negative - from this year's BPO. I think that @Yarium and I did a pretty good job, but there is always room for improvement. Please comment on some or all of the following, plus anything else that you want to add. If you don't want to submit publically then please PM the two of us. ------- Venue - How was the physical space that we used? Was there enough room to move around? Were there alligators in the washrooms? Food - How was the food this year? Was it of a decent quality? Was there enough? Would you be willing to pay more for lunch next year (this year was heavily subsitized), or would you want something simple? Organization - Were we organized enough for you? Did we look like we had no idea? Schedule - Was there enough time to complete you games? Would you like longer rounds with more time between games? Would you like to change the start or end times? Prize Support - We had some very generous prize support from The Basement Collective (bolded because I blew it on my first go round), Dark Shard, Games Nook and Reckless Assault Gaming and Entertainment, as well as Mark's Purity Seals. Did you approve of the distribution of prizes? Four Best-Of prizes, two other placing based awards, four in-game raffle prizes. Tournament Format - Do you like three games? Four or Five? Would you be interested in a two day Saturday/Sunday event? Game Size - Do you like 2000 points? Would you prefer smaller? Would you prefer a teams event? Event Frequency - Given our demographic (20-40) we all have busy lives. How often would you like to see large local events run? How often would you like to see small local events? What about a tabletop game convention where multiple game systems come together over a weekend?
  7. BPO Feedback Thread

TBMC did toss in $75, which was incredibly generous. Check them out on twitch and youtube! https://www.twitch.tv/twinner103 https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCZs4Bi1s8MLvJNPYe0TBBZw
  8. Advice on preparing for Dynastys

Since there are no Dynasty specific models for Necrons (unlike Astra Militarum, for example) you should be fine to pick a Dynasty as you see fit once the rules hit. I would expect that all models with the same colour scheme use the same Dynasty rules, but just like Space Marine successor chapters you can pretty much pick the dynasty that you want to play regardless of the paint job. After a few games (or at another tournament) I would expect that if you are running multiple detachments from different dynasties that you would paint the detachments differently. For now keep on getting the metal colours painted on your models. All your Necrons will have metal, so get them all to that point. When you have a second dynasty that you want to take advantage of you can add on a spot colour that is different from the gold that you are currently using on your rank and file. ---- I've seen red Ultramarines and blue White Scars. As long as the paint job is consistent across the models in the detachment you're usually ok.
  9. I would really prefer a game that builds up to a frenzied pace as opposed to cutting to the middle of the action. I suppose that the ugoigo deployment model is supposed to do some of this for you, but in my experience it hasn't quite achieved that. A shorter game of ugoigo leads to an even more swingy experience. What about just playing smaller games? 2000 points was supposed to be the holy grail of 40k, but maybe there is still too much on the table at once?
  10. The Beer and Pretzels Open 2017

I've got my pictures uploading to the old imgur right now too: https://www.facebook.com/pg/BeerAndPretzelsOpen/photos/?tab=album&album_id=189108754998424 Best General: 1000 points for a win plus your in game score. 19 for a major, 13 for a minor (1 and 7 on the losing side respectively) Best Sportsman: There was a rubric (which NOBODY followed) out of 6 for each game, plus up to three votes for favourite opponent Best Presentation: There was a rubric (which I followed) out of 8, plus each player got a vote for their favourite. Each of these results was then scored as a percentage of the winner of that track. As an example, Mr Joe Average Steve Marleau scored 18/21 points for sportsman = 857 sports points to Keith's 1000. Sum of those totals and you get the following Best Overall:
  11. We're back for the third iteration of Sudbury's largest 40k tournament! The full player packet should be attached to this post. Please look for (BPO FINAL.pdf) Details: 3 rounds of play, 2 1/4 hours per round 2000 points, three detachments No single model unit can be above Power Level 31. ITC Style Missions and FAQ Optional hot lunch November 18th (09:30 Registration / Game 1 at 10:00) Lockerby Legion, Sudbury Registration: $25 - Online registration to follow. 24 players maximum. Lunch: $15 ----------------------------------- Questions: Q: Where else can I get information? A: https://www.facebook.com/BeerAndPretzelsOpen/ A: http://www.frontlinegaming.org/community/frontline-gamings-independent-tournament-circuit/ Q: Man, I hope that the lunch works out better than last year! A: The kitchen staff has been turned over due to... performance issues. Q: Where do I register? A: Best Coast Pairings will be available soon. First to pay, First to play. Feel free to voice your interest in this thread! Edited: I've been waiting for BCP to have a Tournament Organizer App that doesn't require an iThing. That hasn't happened. We will be managing registration between here and the Facebook Event. Q: Is this competitive or casual? A: This event is what the players make it. We aim to accommodate all types of players, and use a self-imposed ranking system that helps ensure you fight people with the same mind-set as yourself for your first matchup. Historically, this has work very well and everyone has left happy. Q: How do I win prizes? A: The BPO rewards the full hobby. Prizes are awarded for Best General, Best Sportsman, and Best Hobbyist while the top prize is awarded to the player with the aggregate score (all scoring tracks are weighted equally). Prize support and distribution is dependent on attendance. Last year we had a total purse in excess of $1000 distributed to nearly 10 prizes! ---------------- Registration The following is a list of players who have shown interest in attending. We can accept 24 players and will continue to manage a wait list. Players who pre-pay by October 17 will be guaranteed a spot. On October 17 we will start contacting the wait list to ensure that we can fill the event. 18. The Beer and Pretzels Open 2017

We are sold out! As of last night we have pre-sold all 24 tickets to what is now Sudbury's largest 40k tournament. Still have the itch? Contact myself or @Yarium to see if you would fit the bill as our official ringer. ------- @Ordo_Draigo If you are playing with any codex-equipped factions in your army list (Like Draigo and the Grey Knights) you do NOT have access to the BPO Stratagems. That said, if you were to be playing with those naughty Dark Angels you'd be able to play those stratagems and potentially stack them with other bonuses in your Index!

Lunch is booked. Roast beef or chicken with gravy, roasted potatoes, garden salad and hot veg. A variety of pies (apple, etc) for dessert. There will not be any hot bar snacks available for sale, but we can all bring in table snacks (like pretzels) for munchies. If anyone else is interested in joining us for what I have been assured will be an excellent meal at 12:15, please let me or @Yarium know. Lunch tickets at short notice are $20.
  22. Gribblies are Fast!

Holy smokes, those Genestealers and Hormagaunts from Hive Fleet Kraken are speedy! I played a game last night with @Yarium and the Questing Tendrils attribute is just incredible to get your little guys crashing forwards. These guys are moving 6-8" plus 3D6 (pick the highest) for an Advance move. That's a 50% chance to get another 6" from the run. Kraken can also spend 1 command point to DOUBLE the advance roll (which again, is nearly always doubling a 5 or a 6). You can spend a second command point to play Metabolic Overdrive to permit a unit to move (and advance) a second time in the movement phase to clear another 12" of distance before you even hit the psychic phase! If you've got a Kraken Swarmlord in your list you can pop its ability in the shooting phase to let those buggers move (and advance) yet again. Finally, the second half of Questing Tendrils permits units to leave combat and still charge - AMAZING! ----------- This played out with a purple tide of 60 or 90 Genestealers absolutely FLYING across the table into my lines, striking incredibly hard and locking up several key shooting units. I was able to hold the line and counter charge in my turn (totally whiffing on several key shots to thin the herd) and do a bit of damage. At this point, however, the Stealers were already stuck in and the Hormagaunts were right behind them. The Stealers backed out of combat and adjusted their charges to touch even more units before Questing Tendrils permitted them to charge again and utterly wreck face.

Thanks, @Grimaldus ! We should be good on tables, but if you want to bring your mat and terrain then please send a PM picture to myself and @Yarium to make sure that you've got enough big LOS blocking elements.
